Reference

We are taught to answer the question of who we are by describing what we do for a living, and for a while that works. The trouble comes when the work stops, or changes, or simply loses its meaning, and we find that we have built our sense of self on something that was never entirely ours to keep. It is worth having at least one answer to that question that a change of job cannot take away, whether it is a craft, a relationship, or a way of paying attention to the world.
