Describe a change in your city or industry over ten years. Use: soar, plummet, level off, fluctuate, a steady rise, a sharp decline, plateau.

A good short talk has a shape you can hear: a clear opening, one or two points with examples, and a close. Practise that shape out loud here, and get feedback on the things an audience notices first — pace, filler words, and whether you finished your sentences.

Give your view on everyday sustainability. Use: single-use, carbon footprint, offset, cut back, greenwashing, a knock-on effect, incentive.

Describe a complex situation, replacing vague words with precise ones: not 'big' but 'substantial'; not 'bad' but 'detrimental'; not 'a lot of change' but 'a marked shift'.
Deliver a two-minute mini-talk on a topic you know. Signpost throughout: to begin with, moving on, this brings me to, to put it another way, to sum up.
